ABOUT ME

Experienced Counselor

My name is Bethany Sznajder (pronounced like Snyder) and I am the founder of Kindred Oak Counseling, PLLC.  I have experience and enjoy working with clients of all ages. From play therapy to EMDR, I seek to find what is the best fit for each client to heal and grow. I particularly love working with children, teen girls, and adult women.  I am known for creating an open and nonjudgmental environment where clients can feel safe to address difficult issues, memories, and feelings. I enjoy helping clients further develop and incorporate existing coping skills and/or discover new ones.

I am licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners as a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor also hold certification through the National Board of Certified Counselors. I received a Bachelor of Science  in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling with an emphasis in Play Therapy from Sam Houston State University. I am a Registered Play Therapy  Supervisor and certified Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)  and Sandtray Therapy.

I am a member of the following professional organizations:

  • Texas Counseling Association

  • Association for Play Therapy

  • Sam Houston Association for Play Therapy

  • EMDR International Association

Prior to entering private practice, I worked at a child advocacy center in Texas providing individual, group, and family therapy for children who have experienced trauma. I worked individually with caregivers to provide support, parenting assistance, process their own trauma, manage anxiety and depressive symptoms. During my graduate program, I also worked with trauma survivors and completed my group practicum experience leading court-mandated substance abuse groups.

I was born in Texas, but grew up moving all over the  world due to my father's job in oil and gas. I love reading, music, and nature, but find greatest joy in time spent with my two daughters.

For some, faith and spiritual beliefs can be a powerful part of the healing process. I am also aware that religion and faith may be a sensitive, painful, or even complicated part of a client's personal history.  I enjoy working with clients from all faiths and belief systems (including nonreligious or spiritual) and strive to meet the client where they are in their spiritual journey.  For those seeking counseling from a Christian perspective, I am able to work collaboratively with the client to incorporate principles and practices into the therapeutic process based on the client's preferences and comfort level.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me at (832) 856-4545 or email me at bethany@kindredoakcounseling.com. I look forward to working with you.
